My name is James Luman. I have been training and trimming horses since I was a boy of 14. My Grandfather was a respected horseman. My Father and Uncle are horsemen. I have literally been around horses all my life. I heard about this method of trimming some time ago and have been with it ever since. I have gone to great lengths to become educated in Natural Hoof Care and continue my education whenever the time permits. Many of the trimmers in the AANHCP were at one time farriers. They just couldn’t get the results they needed with conventional shoeing. They went looking for answers, and found them in the Wild Mustang. That is our “model”.
I live and ride in the Ozarks. It is some of the most beautiful country around. It is also some of the roughest. I am a Men’s level 5 competition Mounted Shooter and compete in Ranch Racing. My family and I are involved in many different venues of competition riding and do it all on barefoot horses. My horses do not exhibit the same level of fatigue and soreness they did before I pulled the shoes.
My clients include Hunter-Jumpers, Dressage riders, trail riders, barrel racers, mounted shooters, and buggy horses. All have benefited from Natural Hoof Care. Horses that wouldn’t stand to be shod are standing quietly and mannerly for trimming. Frankly, I would much rather have my foot stepped on by a barefoot horse. It still hurts, but you don’t have to take your boot off and see if all your toes are still attached! Think about the difference in getting kicked by a shod horse versus a barefoot horse.
This concept makes sense in so many ways. Your local library should have some books on the subject and there are many websites to go to. Take the time to find out about this method. Please visit my site often and if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You will be doing the best thing in the world for your horse.
